What is Smart Routing?

Also known as: Smart payment routing, akıllı POS yönlendirme

Smart routing is a rules-based mechanism that automatically sends each payment to the most suitable of a business's virtual POS accounts and payment providers, based on criteria such as commission rate, the channel's live success rate, the card's issuing bank, number of instalments and amount.

How does Smart Routing work?

  1. The business defines routing rules — for example, sending a bank's cards through that bank's own POS (on-us), or sending transactions above a certain amount to the lowest-cost channel.
  2. For each transaction the rules engine identifies the issuing bank and card type from the BIN and evaluates each channel's live status and cost.
  3. The transaction goes to the selected channel; if that channel does not respond, failover moves it to the next suitable channel.

Key points

  • Optimises payment cost per transaction
  • Gets the most out of bank campaigns and commercial terms
  • Automatically shifts traffic away from channels with falling success rates

Smart Routing with Treps

Treps's "Commission Saver" approach is built on smart routing: not just getting the transaction through, but evaluating commission, success rate and performance per bank/POS together to route it through the right channel. If a lower-cost alternative exists for the same transaction, it is routed there automatically.

Frequently asked questions

How does smart routing reduce payment costs?

Bank commission rates vary with card type, number of instalments and whether the card belongs to the same bank. Smart routing accounts for these differences on every transaction and sends it through the lowest-cost suitable channel.

Does smart routing affect the customer's checkout experience?

No. The routing decision is made in the background within milliseconds; the customer sees the same payment page and does not notice which bank processed the transaction.
